How AI Is Reshaping Business Workflows in 2026

Mike Lewis · · updated

From automated customer support to intelligent document processing, AI has moved from novelty to plumbing.

AI in 2026 is not about replacing people. It is about removing the tedious, repetitive work that slows teams down, and the best implementations are the ones nobody notices because they simply mean less typing.

Where AI delivers real return

  • Customer support triage and first-response drafting
  • Document processing and data extraction, especially from PDFs nobody wants to rekey
  • Content generation and marketing copy, as a first draft rather than a final one
  • Predictive analytics for sales forecasting

Getting started without the overwhelm

You do not need a large initiative. Start with one high-friction workflow, ideally one somebody complains about by name, automate it, measure whether it actually saved time, and expand from there. A project that begins with a platform decision rather than a problem usually ends as a platform nobody uses.

Where it goes wrong

The failure we see most is automating a step without deciding what happens when it is wrong. A model that drafts a reply is useful; a model that sends one is a liability unless somebody can see what went out and correct it. Build the review step first and the automation second, and keep a record of what the system decided so a person can audit it later.

The other trap is measuring adoption rather than benefit. Usage numbers go up because a tool is new. The question worth asking after a month is whether anyone would object if it were switched off.
